Frequently Asked Questions
Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions concerning auditions and recalls. If you have any further questions, please check that the information you require is not available elsewhere on our website, or call PEEL on +44 (0)1756 796 176 and we’ll be happy to help.
Q: What form will the audition take?
A: PEEL auditions are organised in a workshop format. All candidates will be auditioned together, which means when you perform your prepared piece your fellow candidates will be present. In addition singers will be asked to join in some simple movement/dance workshops and dancers may be asked to join in with some chorus vocal work. Naturally, auditions can be stressful, but we work hard to make you feel comfortable and hopefully you’ll enjoy your day, whatever the outcome.
Q: Who will be auditioning me?
A: Our adjudication team will normally include a creative Director, a choreographer, a Musical Director and may include one or more of our current cruise directors.
Q: How should I choose my prepared pieces?
A: There is no simple answer to this question. For all performers, an audition is a one-time chance to demonstrate the best of your skills in a short time. This naturally makes the experience rather stressful, so we would advise that you prepare something you are 100% comfortable with and that shows your skills off well. Bear in mind that time pressures may mean that we can’t hear the whole of your prepared piece, so it’s best to avoid long intros.
Q: What format should I use for my backing?
A: As detailed in our Audition Information, all backing tracks should be on CD or Minidisc. No cassettes, sheet music or a capella singing will be accepted. Also, please ensure that your tracks are easy for our team to set up. Ideally they should be track 1 and track 2 on the same disc.
Q: When will I know the result of my audition?
A: If you get through to the final round, you will normally be contacted by telephone within the following week.
Q: What does it mean if I’m unsuccessful?
A: Whether you are unsuccessful on the day or do not hear from us following an audition, this is not necessarily a comment on your skills or professional abilities. The adjudication process involves many complex considerations, including the “make-up” of each team we recruit. Please don’t feel dejected if you are unsuccessful. PEEL makes every effort to make the whole process as constructive and painless as possible, but the more experienced among you will know that ‘rejection’ is all part and parcel of an entertainment career.
Q: Why do I have to phone PEEL to confirm my place at audition?
A: PEEL does not hold ‘open’ auditions, we prefer to know who’s coming so we can plan the day properly and make sure everyone gets as much attention as possible.
Q: I have a friend who would like to audition. Can I bring them on the day?
A: Generally we do not see candidates who have not registered and confirmed with us by phone. Ask your friend to give us a call and we’ll be happy to reserve a place for them.
Q: I am going to be late for the audition, or I have to leave early, can I still come?
A: Yes, but please give PEEL advance notice of any problems you may have regarding the call time for your audition.
Q: Will refreshments be provided during the day?
A: Unfortunately, PEEL is unable to provide refreshments for our audition candidates. However, breaks will be scheduled-in for you to make your own arrangements.
Q: What if I can’t attend the auditions due to unforeseen circumstances?
A: Please call PEEL if you are unable to attend the audition you have been booked for. Normally we would keep you on file for future auditions. In exceptional circumstances we may be able to make alternative arrangements, but this is not guaranteed.
Q: I want to audition for PEEL but will not be available for this contract, should I still come?
A: We are always pleased to see candidates, even if they’re not immediately available. Our contracts change approximately every six months, so future opportunities are never far away.
